Cocktails Anyone?

ingredients for Raspberry Lime Sparkler with Basil on a cutting board

Living in the desert, dealing with dry heat in the hot summer months, there is only one concern on everyone’s mind… WHAT CAN WE DRINK AROUND HERE?!

At my house we usually cater to a mixed crowd; energetic kids, pregnant mamas, and Dads looking to unwind with an afternoon cocktail. Nothing says family fun like spending a warm summer day outside, together. I love to celebrate with seasonal flavors and local flavors, but I also make sure to keep it simple. That’s why I visit my local Whole Foods Market and head straight to the produce section.

They provide a wide variety of fresh ingredients such as watermelon, bananas, basil, raspberries, ginger and mint. There are so many different combinations to choose from, but there is one constant: the best ingredients create the ultimate cocktail for everyone’s enjoyment.

These recipes start out as refreshing summer sippers for the whole family and with a few fun, subtle touches, with ingredients like basil or agave nectar, they make delicious, refreshing, light cocktails. Cheers, to a great summer!

It’s been cold and rainy here in Arizona, which means it’s time to crack out the dutch oven for some simple and delicious meals. I love utilizing local ingredients, and today, I’m going to cook with the desert southwest tepary bean, the world’s most drought tolerant domesticated bean. High in...
